Gifts of Wine, Salt, Bread and a Bible are presented by Kathy Schardt, Treasurer of Worcester County's Habitat for Humanity.
The gifts are symbolic. Salt represents activity. It preserves and heals. Bread is the staff of life. Wine signifies the friuts of labor, and he Bible will be a reminder of the love an generosity that produced this house |
Happy new homeowner Leslie Dix is overwhelmed. Habitat families participate in the construction of their homes by providing several hundred hours of "sweat equity" towards the construction of their homes or the homes of others in the program.
Partner families are selected on the basis of need and their ability to make mortgage payments. The homes are sold at cost, and are financed with no-interest mortgages. |
