Committee Service
SMAR maintains several committees which assist in establishing policy, monitoring public
relations programs, promoting educational training, member services, and much more.
Committee participation is encouraged and is available to all members. Your voice can
make a difference.  But direct involvement isn't the only way committees benefit SMAR
members.  They benefit from fellow SMAR committee volunteers who work hard to
promote the goals of the Association and enhance the services it provides.

Conventions
All SMAR members may attend the Maryland and National Association of REALTORS®
Annual Conventions offered at various locations in the United States. Conventions provide members an opportunity to keep abreast of the ever-changing laws, regulations, products,
services and technology affecting the real estate industry.

Education
SMAR offers a variety of continuing education courses providing the most current
information and expert instructors, with convenient weekday and Saturday classes
at reduced rates. Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Pre-licensing Course and
required and elective courses are offered.

Insurance
SMI Insurance is available at special SMAR rates.  They will evaluate your needs and
make recommendations to close gaps, enhance coverage, and reduce costs.  They
offer business, personal, life & health, retirement and estate planning services.  Contact

Mediation Services
Every attempt is made to offer members to option to mediate disputes. It's a free and
easy way to reach an agreement and avoid the expense, stress, and time involved in an arbitration.

Networking
SMAR sponsors a variety of social events throughout the year: Annual Awards of
Excellence Banquet, Annual Installation of Officers & Directors, Annual Legislative
Breakfast, and the REALTOR® Fair, are just a few of the many activities provided for
SMAR members. Participate and meet fellow members, renew friendships and ehance
business contacts.

Pre-licensing Course
SMAR Institute of Real Estate offers the 60-hour pre-licensing course required prior to
taking the Real Estate Exam for licensure. The course is offered three times per year
(spring, summer & fall sessions). While the classes are open to the public and are not
exclusive to members, the course allows new people to join the industry and creates opportunities for members to fill recruitment and staffing needs.

Professional Standards Services
All SMAR members have the opportunity to file an Ethics Complaint or Arbitration
Request to settle issues involving the Code of Ethics or commission disputes.  Contact

REALTOR® Political Action Committee
Supports candidates for public office who represent the best interest of REALTORS® and
private property rights. SMAR members also enjoy the services of a Legislative Affairs
consultant who monitors the local County and town governments and reports back to
members on issues that affect their livelihoods.

REALTOR® Store
SMAR's REALTOR® Store has expanded its inventory to include more informational
brochures and pamphlets, literature holders and boxes, various signs and sign riders,
and open house pennants and signs. The REALTOR® Store is equipped with unique
and personalized items which will make you "stand out" in the crowd of real estate
professionals. We will also order particular items for you which we do not have room

SMARTS: Southern Maryland Association of REALTORS® Technology Services
Southern Maryland is the only Association in the area to offer a full-time technology
services provider on staff. Basic hardware troubleshooting and repair, assistance with
software issues, and technology questions are offered not only for member's office
computers, but for home pc's as well. Members enjoy reduced rates that offer substantial

Performance Recognition
Awards of Excellence Program/Hall of Fame. Annual award competition recognizes top
