The C.A.R.E. (Community Action and REALTOR Excellence) Award is given annually by the Maryland Association of REALTORS® to Local Boards/Associations to recognize achievements in community service and charitable actions. The award is designed to raise the profile of REALTORS®, to recognize the contributions REALTORS® make in their communities in terms of volunteer hours and money raised, and to offset the perception that REALTORS® are only concerned with the business transactions of buying and selling homes.

The C.A.R.E. Award was started in 2002 and SMAR received the first place trophy that same year. In 2005 SMAR won honorable mention and a check for $500 to be awarded to the Charity of our choice.

In September 2006 SMAR again won first place and a check for $10,000. SMAR's C.A.R.E. Award application documented that 797 volunteers gave 5,231.5 volunteer hours and raised an amazing $205,224.95 in donations. Additionally, 143,204 individuals and 1 family were served. Among the many activities included in our application: Katrina Disaster Relief Fundraiser, a Relay for Life, Blood Donations, Shelter Meals, United Way – Day of Caring, various scholarship programs, Winter Coat & Cell Phone Drives, Charity Golf Tournament, Toys for Tots and Habitat for Humanity.
