Reata Swanson has nearly three decades of experience in real estate and real estate-related matters. She began her extensive and varied career working for a prominent surveying company in Prince George’s County, and learned the ins and outs of plats, surveys, maps, tax records and recordation of deeds. She then worked for 5 years as a new homes saleswoman for a builder, in Prince George’s and Charles Counties.

Reata received her real estate license in 1977 and in 2005 she joined Re/Max 100 in Waldorf.

Reata earned her Graduate Realtor Institute,(GRI) in 1989 and her Certified Residential Specialist(CRS ) in 1989. Throughout her career, she has “specialized” in working with senior citizens, and has often sold real estate to several generations of the same families. She is a member of The Southern Maryland Realtors Hall of Fame. A very strong proportion of her business has been “repeat” business from previous customers, their family and friends.

Reata became a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Maryland Association of Realtors in 1993, and has served on SMAR’s Grievance Committee from 1993 to 1998 and 2000 to 2001; served on the Education Committee from 1993 to 1998; served on the Education/Orientation Committee from 1998 to 2000, served on the Professional Standards Committee from 1998 to 1999, and was chairman of the Education Committee from 1999 to 2001. She was elected to the position of SMAR vice president in 2001, and then was president-elect from 2001 to 2002. Reata became president of SMAR in October 2002, and after serving her highly successful term filled the position of Immediate Past President, while also serving on the Finance Committee, Nominating Committee (as chairman) and the Hospitality/Special Events Committee. Reata graduated from the M.A.R. Leadership Academy in 2003, and has attended national NAR conventions in Chicago, New Orleans and San Francisco. She has also attended the state MAR conventions and meetings in Ocean City. Reata was the first president and past-president of the Southern Maryland association in many years to routinely attend the functions and meetings of other MAR chapters throughout the state, and has been especially active in MAR’s Habitat for Humanity project. She serves on the State Association’s Communication and Public Relations Committee and Nominating Committee.

Reata was born in Nashville and raised in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and San Diego, California and speaks Southern and Valley Girl as well as English, Realtor and Mom. A “Roads Scholar” (she knows every road, highway, path, trail, avenue and street in Southern Maryland), Reata has lived in Waldorf for the past 28 years, and her husband Bill is a newspaper writer/editor for Bowhead Support Systems in St Mary’s County. They have five children (two still at home) and ten grandchildren in Maryland, Virginia and Texas.

When she’s not working on real estate, SMAR and MAR and being “Granny,” Reata enjoys gardening, working on the family vacation cottage (under construction in Stratford Harbor, Va.) and cruising the Patuxent River and Chesapeake Bay in the family’s 33-foot powerboat.
